This cool dude is Seventh American Idol. He was already a rock singer as well as a songwriter before participating in ‘American Idol’. He released his independent album, “Analog Heart” prior to Idol. He is keenly interested in music since his childhood. His first performance was a solo in school choir, in second grade. He received his first guitar at the age of twelve. While studying in Blue Springs South High School, he performed in musicals like ‘The Music Man’, ‘West Side Story’ and ‘Singing In The Rain’. Besides this, he’s an active member of National Forensic League of his school. He had qualified twice for national tournament for duo interpretation, an event which banks on performance and interpretation of a literary work. Other than this, he was an enthusiastic Baseball player during high school. He studied theater in University of Central Missouri, but dropped after two semesters and then graduated in Graphic Design. He didn’t want to do any job until 26 so he went to Tulsa, Oklahoma to pursue a music career.

There, he was the lead singer and guitarist of band “Axium” from 1999 to 2006. This was chosen one of the fifteen best bands of the country in the “Got Milk?” In another independent band contest it was selected as the best band in Kansas City in 2004. One of the band’s creation “Hold” was lifted up by AMC Theaters Movie Tunes and was played nationwide before previews.

But in 2006, after break up of ‘Axium’, he joined Oklahoma’s regional touring band ‘Midwest Kings’ and played guitar, bass and sung back up vocals for them. He also recorded one EP, ‘Incoherent With Desire To Move On’, with this band in 2006. His independent album was chosen fourth best CD released in 2006 by website Music Equals Life. ‘Analog Heart’ also remained number one album for ‘Today’s Top MP3 Albums’ on Amazon.com.

He went for American Idol auditions just to support his brother Andrew, but Andrew insisted him to give a try and interestingly, Andrew couldn’t make it to Hollywood but David became an American Idol. He won over David Archuleta by 12 million votes and performed on winning song “The Time Of My Life”. His six debut songs shined on Billboard Hot 100 chart, beating the record set by Miley Cyrus. He also broke the record by 14 debut songs on Billboard’s Hot Digital Songs chart.
